Unplug electric appliances or switch off the breaker before inspection. If you smell gas, burning, or see smoke, stop immediately and contact a qualified professional.
Protect your food first
Move perishable food to a cooler with ice if the refrigerator is above 40°F. Keep doors closed as much as possible while you inspect the unit.
Confirm settings and power
Make sure the controls were not accidentally changed and check that the interior light comes on. Reset a tripped GFCI outlet only if you know it serves the refrigerator safely.
Give it breathing room
Move boxes away from interior vents and vacuum visible dust from the exterior grille or accessible coil area. Unplug the appliance first and avoid bending fins.
Check the door seal
Close the door on a sheet of paper. If it slides out with almost no resistance in several places, the gasket may need cleaning, adjustment, or replacement.
WHEN TO CALL OSH TECH
