Unplug electric appliances or switch off the breaker before inspection. If you smell gas, burning, or see smoke, stop immediately and contact a qualified professional.
Start with safety
Turn the dryer off and unplug it before checking anything. If you smell burning, see scorched marks, or have a gas dryer with a gas odor, stop and contact a qualified professional immediately.
Clean the lint screen
Remove the lint screen, clear it completely, and rinse it with warm water if fabric-softener residue is visible. Let it dry fully before reinstalling.
Check the outside vent
With the dryer running on air-only, verify the outside flap opens and air moves freely. A blocked or crushed vent line needs professional attention because it can be a fire risk.
Use the right cycle
Try a timed-dry cycle on high heat with a small load. Sensor cycles can end early when the moisture sensors are coated or the load is very small.
WHEN TO CALL OSH TECH
If the drum turns but the dryer stays cold after these checks, the issue may involve a heating element, thermal fuse, igniter, or power supply. Those repairs are best left to a technician.
