Safety first

Unplug electric appliances or switch off the breaker before inspection. If you smell gas, burning, or see smoke, stop immediately and contact a qualified professional.

  1. Cancel and drain

Run the dishwasher’s cancel/drain cycle first. If water remains, switch off power at the breaker before removing the bottom rack.

  2. Clear the filter

Lift out the filter according to your owner’s manual. Rinse away food debris with warm water and use a soft brush—never force or pry internal parts.

  3. Inspect the drain area

Use a flashlight to look for loose labels, glass, or food near the filter opening. Wear gloves and remove only items you can safely reach.

  4. Check the sink connection

Run the garbage disposal if your dishwasher drains through it. A newly installed disposal may still have its dishwasher knockout plug in place; this should be handled by an installer or technician.

WHEN TO CALL OSH TECH

Do not use chemical drain cleaner in a dishwasher. If the machine hums, leaks, or will not drain after the filter is clean, schedule a diagnosis.
